We invite you to join Alaska's network of technology research and development experts.
What is trendnet?
trendnet is a network of experts, professionals, and service providers dedicated to the research and development of new technologies in Alaska. The Technology Research and Development Center of Alaska (trend), a non-profit specialty center within the UAA Small Business Development Center, coordinates the network in order to:
- Enhance the capacity of services and expertise already available through trend
- Better link existing providers of local and statewide support services, existing networks, and sources of information and expertise
- Provide access to national sources of expertise
- Increase the competitiveness and success of Phase I awards from the Small Business Innovation and Research Program and the Small Business Technology Transfer Program
- Collectively advocate for technology-based economic development
How trendnet works
trend refers clients with particular research and development challenges to trendnet members for assistance. These referrals are based on the area(s) of expertise and the extent of assistance that network members volunteer (See attached application).
Network Members
Experts are tech/research staff and university faculty providing assistance with:
- Product development (patent, prototype, drawings)
- Local and Federal lab access
- Academic and business partnerships
- Technology Transfer
- Assessment of scientific/technical merit
- Alternative funding sources and financial resources
Professionals are business persons and government officials assisting in:
- General business management
- Marketing management
- Technology management
- Technical writing expertise
- Financial management
- Commercialization strategies
- Business planning
- Manufacturing experience
Mentors are grant winners (SBIR: Small Business Innovation Research) in Alaska as well as nationally that provide:
- Strategies to compete more effectively
- SBIR/STTR business management advice
- SBIR, STTR and Phase 0 Proposal review
trend seeks to provide assistance throughout the innovation cycle, from concept or idea to the commercialization of a new product or process.
