Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) provides funding to small businesses to research, design, develop and test prototype technologies related to specific federal agency needs, which are issued as solicitation topics every few months on the Internet. You then identify an opportunity listed in the solicitations and submit a proposal for review.
The program was created in 1982 when the US government recognized that America’s small businesses had a lot of talent and were good at developing products that solved problems.
Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) combines the strengths of small business and non-profit research by introducing entrepreneurial skills to high-tech research efforts.
